The Film
Twenty-five-year-old photojournalist and poet Fatma Hassona dedicated her life to documenting the reality of Palestinian existence in Gaza. Through intimate video calls with Iranian filmmaker Sepideh Farsi throughout 2024, she created a visual diary of her people’s struggle, capturing the suffering of displaced and orphaned children whilst maintaining an unwavering message of dignity, humanity and hope, even as missile strikes rained down around her.
Twenty-four hours after the film’s Cannes premiere was announced, an Israeli airstrike killed Fatma and her family in what was alleged to be a targeted assassination.
Put Your Soul on Your Hand and Walk is more than powerful cinema; it’s a tribute to Fatma’s memory and an urgent call not to look away from injustice. This is a documentary that demands to be witnessed.
